tips for upresing video

topic posted Tue, January 16, 2007 - 3:46 PM by  Yosh!
Hey all -

I've been shooting a bunch of stuff on my cell phone that I'm trying want to upres to edit and use. I've never really tried to upres video before only compressed but have been told a slight blur will help keep things from pixelating too much.

Any other suggestions or pointers to good info ya'll care to share?

just don't "opress" the video ;-)

what res are you dealing with to begin with?

When dealing with a cellphone camera, you may want to try adopting a "lo-fi look"
(make it even more pixelated, reduce colors)

because cleaning it up to the level of a standard camcorder may be impossible

Hey Yosh. Wassup. What size is the video coming off your phone? 160x120 or 320x240? You're gonna lose a lot of fidelity on the upres if you have to more than double scale it up, so if it's 320x240, you could theoretically go up to 640x480 without it looking too bad. Blurring is only really good for noise reduction, but it might help. It depends on the image. Apps like cleaner or squeeze have decent scalers in them, but they're only really good when you're reducing your frame size. I know there's some After Plugins that are made specifically for upresing standard def stuff to HD, but with those, your original is hi-res dv, so, those solutions might be more trouble than they're worth....you're gonna have to test what works best.
